Empowering Eaglehawk
About
Our History
Empowering Eaglehawk originated in the early 2000s when the Rotary Club of Eaglehawk engaged with students from Eaglehawk Secondary College to identify community needs. This collaboration led to the establishment of the McKern Skate Park.
In 2005, a partnership with Bendigo Bank facilitated the creation of a foundation, allowing customers to link their accounts to support community initiatives. By 2006, Empowering Eaglehawk was officially formed by dedicated community members including Ross Mitchell, Noel Claridge, Tricia Spence, Brian Davey, Mary Preston, Gordon and Michael McKern, Peter Krenz, Nadia McComb, and Phil Kerr.
Notably, Nadia McComb, a Year 9 student, joined the committee, highlighting the organisation’s commitment to youth involvement. Over the years, with support from partners like Bendigo Bank, Bendigo Telco, Evergreen Waters, and IGA, Empowering Eaglehawk has reinvested over $1.1 million into the 3556 community.
Significant projects include the redevelopment of the Canterbury Park precinct and the creation of new local play spaces. Today the organisation remains a driving force, providing grants, encouraging youth engagement, creating various opportunities within the community as well as recognising individuals through our Community Awards.
What we do
Empowering Eaglehawk is a not-for-profit community enterprise that exists to provide funds for community-based projects and individuals through grants and scholarships.
Our mission is to build our connected 3556 community together. To help Eaglehawk to remain a thriving town for the local residents.
Through generous donations and business partnerships, we are proud to have donated over $1.1 million to the 3556 community since our inception in the early 2000s.
